Business Related Tax Ordinance

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CLEMSON, SOUTH CAROLINA TO EXTEND THE DUE DATE FOR HOSPITALITY TAX, HOSPITALITY FEE, ACCOMMODATIONS TAX, BUSINESS LICENSE PAYMENTS, AND TO SUSPEND LATE FEES AND DISCONNECTS FOR CITY SERVICES

WHEREAS, the City of Clemson would like to extend the due date for business related taxes and offer relief during the COVID-19 outbreak; and  

WHEREAS, Hospitality Tax, Hospitality Fee and Accommodations Taxes collected during February, 2020 shall be due March 20, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Hospitality Tax, Hospitality Fee and Accommodations Taxes collected during March, 2020 will be due June 1, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Hospitality Tax, Hospitality Fee, and Accommodations Taxes collected during April and May 2020 will be due in one lump sum payment June 20, 2020; and

WHEREAS, the first $1,000 will be deducted from the April and May, 2020 lump sum payment.  If the total tax due for April and May, 2020 is less than $1,000 the taxpayer will still file a return showing the amount collected below $1,000; and

WHEREAS, Businesses that usually file monthly returns are still required to file even if no Hospitality Tax, Hospitality Fee, and Accommodations Tax are collected.  File the return showing no amount due for the collection month; and

WHEREAS, the Business License due date will be deferred from April, 30, 2020 to June 20, 2020; and

WHEREAS, the City will not charge late fees or disconnect service for water, wastewater, stormwater, residential and commercial sanitation services for bills dated prior to May 31, 2020.  Customers are encouraged to pay their bills when due if possible, all accounts must be current by June 12, 2020 or they will be subject to penalty and disconnection.   

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Clemson City Council that the Hospitality Tax, Hospitality Fee, Accommodations Tax, and Business License due dates be extended and relief is being offered to members of the business community during the COVID-19 virus outbreak.
