Fire and Life Safety
The principal focus of the Fire Code and Chapter 8 of the City Code of Ordinances is to provide a reasonable level of life safety and property protection from the hazards of fire, explosion, or dangerous conditions in new and existing buildings.
The Fire Marshal or Fire Inspector conducts plan review and construction related inspections of all commercial and multifamily buildings as well as required annual life safety inspections of all existing commercial buildings. The City Fire Marshal also serves as a liaison to the Clemson University Fire Department, which provides fire protection for the City of Clemson, and aids in the Fire Scene investigation at the request of the Fire Chief or incident command.
The City also invests in educational programs for the installation of smoke alarms, child and elderly safety events, and educational opportunities for employees and the public for the promotion of fire and life safety. The Fire Marshal is responsible for the implementation of these programs.
The Chapter 8 of the City of Clemson Code of Ordinances outlines the Fire Prevention and Protection municipal guidelines.
