Clemson Boy Scouts collect food for Clemson Community Care

Clemson Boy Scouts collect food for Clemson Community Care

On a recent Friday evening and Saturday, approximately 30 scouts and adults from scout troops 161 and 235 stationed at the entrances to the Central Walmart and Clemson Walmart Neighborhood Market collected over 4161 pounds of food and $434 in donations from customers for Clemson Community Care (CCC), the local food bank for the Clemson area.

Scouts worked in two‐hour shifts over 11 total hours and requested donations via a typed list of needs as customers entered the store. The scouts noted that the response was great and send a big THANKS to the two food stores for allowing them to conduct the food drive and to all the customers who supported this annual SCOUTING FOR FOOD drive. Karen Carter, CCC director, said that the amount of food collected would fulfill the organization’s needs for almost a week. Troops 161 and 235 are sponsored by Clemson United Methodist Church and Fort Hill Presbyterian Church in Clemson respectively.
