Cleanup and Recovery Updates - October 10, 2024

Cleanup and Recovery Updates - October 10, 2024

October 10, 2024

Tomorrow marks two weeks since Helene, and we still see the evidence around the City, but we have also seen quite a bit of progress thanks to the tireless efforts of our staff and community. As of this afternoon, 220 (or 70 percent!) of our City streets  have been cleared at least once. Many streets will need to be cleared of street side brush again as residents continue to clean out their yards, but we are working to make an initial pass through of all streets before making return trips. These crews have been working incredibly hard to get these areas cleared and our City back to some form of normal, and their efforts have produced an additional 615 cubic yards of mulch for a total of 4,775 cubic yards of mulch generated through Helene cleanup.

Note: If you hire a contractor, please remind them that the city is not responsible for removing construction and demolition debris, including waste from professional tree companies. For more information on city regulations, refer to Code Sec. 9-29.

Relief Efforts

At City Hall, staff have been working with local organizations to form an essential resources drive called “Two for Two: One for Them (NC/TN) and One for You (Clemson Community).” This donation drive seeks to help our neighbors close to home while aiding in the daunting recovery of Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee. This afternoon, the first load of goods for Western NC and Tennessee were picked up and will be on a plane tomorrow to deliver those supplies. If you’re willing and able to help, donations will be accepted through October 18th.

One of our officers with the City of Clemson Police Department is collecting donations for those in Western North Carolina and Tennessee affected by the hurricane and will be taking these donations himself to North Carolina. Drop off these donations at City Hall Council Chambers until October 18th. Items needed include bee sting relief, lanterns, trash bags, and tents.

Our Community has been incredibly gracious and generous, and we appreciate everyone's contributions, no matter how big or small.
